What have we been up to?

Wow. Where has the year gone! We can’t believe we are now creating the newsletter for September!

It’s been a cooler summer this year hasn’t it. I guess it can’t always be like the summer of 2022!! We hope you have all had a great summer though and have kept well!

And yes, September is Mental Heath Awareness month! So a great time to get in touch with people who might not be feeling too good – take them out for a nice coffee or go for a nice walk. And if anyone wants to talk then don’t be afraid of contacting us or any of the vital wellbeing services in the community. We are always here to help.

Community Development Fund Winners

We’d very much like to wish the community development fund winners well who at the time of writing should be starting to get into their vital wellbeing related projects in the community. We look forward to receiving updates in due course.

Culture of Care Project

Marie, one of a board members of Recovery Devon, can give us an exciting update on the Community Care Project she is working on. Note: for an overview of the project, see the pictures below Marie’s update.

“We have been looking at progressing this work and insuring that those Expert’s by experience are valued and supported, as their role in this is crucial and central to this work. 4 wards are active in this work and Recovery Devon with Together (The involvement and engagement part of Devon Partnership Trust) are working closely together to support and enable full involvement and co-production in all aspects of this, we are at the beginning of what is and exciting programme. This is an opportunity for those on the ward to look at ways to improve ward culture there are the 12 standards which are: 1) Lived Experience, 2) Safety, 3) Relationships, 4) Staff support, 5) Equality, 6) Avoiding harm, 7) Needs led, 8) Choice, 9) Environment, 10) Things to do, 11) Therapeutic support, 12) Transparency. And that all care is trauma informed, autism informed and culturally competent. We will begin to look at ideas from those on the wards at the moment what they would like to look at within those standards and how things can be improved. This is a two year programme so there is potential to make a variety of changes”.

Keep up the great work Marie!

Here are some useful visuals giving a background to the Culture of Care Programme:

The voice of lived and living experience is central to this work, If you are or have recently been an inpatient and would like to help with this work, Please contact Marie on marie.ash@nhs.net to get involved.

Letter of Hope

We are delighted to share the relaunch of the Letter of Hope, a resource we have created in partnership with Devon Partnership Trust and by people in Devon with personal experience of suicide.

We have launched two new versions of the letter; Letter for Tomorrow for young people written by young people, and Hope Letter, an Easy Read version for people with learning disabilities. To find out more please click here. Or get in touch with us if you would like to order physical copies.

Join our aDoddle Community Map!

We are partners with the wonderful folk at aDoddle. They are working with you and your community to make it as easy for everyone to find help and support locally as it is to find a hotel or restaurant on Google Maps.

By Mapping UK Charities, Community Projects, Groups & Organisations together we are creating a national resource for use at a local level. It’s free to create a profile on aDoddle, and this can hold all sorts of information, making it great for small groups who can’t afford a website.

Do you have a not-for-profit community mental health offer you’d like us to share?

With thousands of social media followers and newsletter subscribers across Devon, we’d love to help you find your community. Send an email (hello@recoverydevon.co.uk) with “Roundup” in the subject line, adding a photo and a few details about your project – we’ll include it in our next round-up.
