Self-help

This section of the website looks at ways people can help themselves in their recovery.

  • Animal Therapy Animal / Pet Therapy can be beneficial in promoting recovery.
  • Books on Prescription - A Scheme run by Post Graduate Mental Health Workers based in GP surgeries. Books are prescribed that may help the person to recover. Aimed at early onset of conditions. Books are available from local libraries.
  • CBT - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy - looking at Thought Records
  • Contact Directories - A set of contact directories with information about what is available in your area of Devon
  • Emotional Wellbeing - A collection of books looking at Mental Health Law, Diagnosis, Medication, Self-help, Recovery and Caring
  • Human Givens An approach which looks at the needs of an individual including Security, Attention, Autonomy, Emotionally connected to others, Being part of a wider community, Fun, friendship and intimacy, Status, Meaning and purpose, Privacy- reflect and consolidate experience
  • Peer Support This is an extension to the WRAP and a weeks training course is happening in April 2007, in Devon, where the programme will be launched in Devon
  • Maintanining Wellness - This material can help you reduce stress, difficulties you are experiencing, look after yourself and stay well.
  • WRAP - Wellness Recovery Action Plan - a method of looking after ones health by creating action plans. Not just for mental health conditions but for physical and emotional ones too.
  • Diagnosis Here you will find infomration on some of the diagnosis people receive from their Psychiatrists.
  • Creativity A section dedicated to creativity. You are welcome to submit your work for inclusion in this section. Also there is opportunity to purchase some of the work depicting people's recovery.

  • Recovery Competencies Laurie Davidson and Leah Allen have been working on creating some Recovery Competencies that STR workers and organisations can adhere to which will help people in their road to recovery.
